A life of building, becoming and creating
Funmilola Bello is an entrepreneur, legal professional and founder of Opulent Ceramics. Her journey has moved through law, entrepreneurship and business operations, with each season teaching her something new about building, people and becoming.
Where it all started
Funmilola is the youngest of four children, born to Mr. and Mrs. Oladotun. Her father worked as an engineer and her mother as a nurse, while also running small ventures of her own. It was an early, everyday introduction to work, enterprise and the willingness to make something work.
Her family moved between cities as her parents' work required it, and that experience exposed her to different places and environments from an early age. She developed an adaptability that would become useful much later, as she found herself starting over in unfamiliar spaces more than once.
She has always been interested in building things: businesses, ideas, relationships, communities and, perhaps most importantly, a life that feels meaningful.
Law, business and figuring things out along the way
Funmilola studied Law at the University of Ilorin. But her professional journey did not follow one straight line. Alongside her studies, she began exploring entrepreneurship, starting with jewellery and bead making.
The business grew enough to help fund her LL.M., giving her an early practical lesson in what it means to build something from very little and make it carry real weight.
She later ventured into food and catering, gaining experience in another kind of business before moving into administration and business operations.
Across these different seasons, she learnt that building something on the outside often requires just as much work on the inside. The decisions, patience, responsibility and resilience needed to keep a business going also shape the person doing the work.
Building Opulent Ceramics
In 2019, Funmilola stepped into ceramics without a technical background, significant capital or contacts in the industry. She had to learn the craft from the ground up, studying the chemistry of glazes and learning both local and modern pottery techniques.
That decision became Opulent Ceramics, a business that has given her a very practical education in what it means to build, adapt, make decisions and keep going.
The work has taught her more than the business itself. It has taught her about people, patience, responsibility, creativity and the kind of person she needs to become to carry the things she wants to build.
Today, Opulent Ceramics is part of a larger journey that continues to connect what she builds with who she is becoming.
The life you build can only rise as high as the person you are becoming.
Family and Faith
Funmilola is married to Engr. Bidemi Bello, and together they are blessed with two children, Darasimi and Damisi.
At the core of her life, work, and family is her deep Christian faith. Her relationship with God forms the foundation for everything she undertakes—guiding her decisions, her vision for Opulent Ceramics, and the heart behind Clay Date with FB.
For her, true growth is deeply tied to spiritual maturity and character. It is about allowing God to mold the heart while becoming a faithful steward of the relationships, responsibilities, and opportunities entrusted to her.
What matters to her
Growth is not just about what you achieve. It is also about the person you become while building it.
You can start with very little and still build something meaningful when you are willing to learn.
The things we build matter, but so do the people and relationships we build them alongside.
